Words can never do justice to this magnificent area in the heart of England known as the Peak District, or what a Hobbit could refer to as Middle Earth! Derbyshire County has been the inspiration for many authors to create their finest works, most notably Jane Austen.
Film companies have flocked to the Peak District to use its Stately Homes and panoramic views as the backdrop for so many famous films and television series. Who amongst you ladies can forget Colin Firth in Pride and Prejudice emerging from the water in that wet shirt?
Whilst film producers rub their hands in glee whenever a period piece is planned we must not forget that the entire area is steeped in history and heritage. The most stunning example of both is the glorious Chatsworth House.
You will have plenty of opportunity to explore hidden gems like Bakewell, The Matlocks and The National Park. The Romans discovered the properties of the water gushing from underground springs in Buxton and Mary Queen of Scots soothed her rheumatism in the 82 degree Fahrenheit springs.
You will visit a choice of the many stately homes in the area. Haddon Hall, Sudbury Hall, Kedleston Hall, Chatsworth House, and Hardwick Hall, and delight in the choice of restaurants from the fine dining at the Devonshire Arms, Beeley to the friendly gastro-pub The Saracen’s Head, all in the comfort of one of our luxurious vehicles.
