Heritage, culture and architecture have always played an enormous role in this wonderful city culminating in Liverpool’s iconic waterfront being designated a World Heritage Site, putting it on a par with the Taj Mahal and the Great Wall of China. Located at the tidal mouth of the river Mersey where it meets the Irish Sea, the maritime mercantile City of Liverpool played a vitally important role in the growth of the British Empire. Liverpool has more museums and galleries than any other UK city region outside of London, attracting leading international exhibitions and record visitor numbers.

Liverpool is extremely proud of its two magnificent cathedrals, Anglican and Metropolitan, located at opposite ends of Hope Street, recently voted the best street in the UK. Gothic in design, Liverpool Cathedral is the largest Anglican cathedral in Britain and the fifth largest in the world.

It was designed by architect Sir Giles Gilbert Scott, designer of the red telephone box and completed in 1978. The Tower Experience takes visitors to the very top of the cathedral for a bird’s eye view of the city. The journey to the top of the 331ft tower features two lifts and 108 steps, but it is well worth it for the breathtaking views. This fascinating city is also home to the first Chinatown in Europe. The Imperial Arch at the entrance to Chinatown is the largest outside of China, shipped from Shanghai piece by piece and standing some 15 metres tall, it’s one of the most spectacular sites in this Heritage City of Culture.

  • "I can't say enough good things about the trip [to Ireland] and my nieces feel the same way. They told their mother they couldn't wait to go back to Ireland and one actually said she would live there. All the driver guides were terrific and I must say that James Barton was exceptional. Thank you again for planning such a wonderful trip."
